curry-and-beer

The great curry debate: which beer is best?

curry-and-beerWe love curry houses and we love beer gardens – with over 2.1 million pints served in curry houses across the UK every week, so the two definitely go together!

What’s your go to beer when you’re tucking into a curry or settling down for a takeaway? Here at the Rupali we take a look at some of the best curry beers available:

Kingfisher

This slightly spicy lager also has a sweet tang which means Kingfisher perfectly complements mild Indian food such as tikka masala.

Left Hand Nitro Milk Stout

Letf Hand’s Nitro Milk Stout is full bodied with an almost mocha sweetness which we thinks goes perfectly with chicken tandoori.

Mongoose IPA

If you’re a fan of a vindaloo, the citrus and fruity flavours of Mongoose IPA taste brilliantly with spicy dishes.

Cobra

We can’t forget the curry house favourite – Cobra! With a gentle fizz it works well with creamy and nutty curry dishes, such as a korma.

Thornbridge Jaipur IPA

Taking a drink of Thronbridge Jaipur is an elegant experience and the citrus flavours also go well the nation’s favourite chicken tikka masala.

Blue Moon

As soon as you open a bottle of Blue Moon you can smell the orange trees and it accompanies an aromatic Rogan Josh dish perfectly!

Pilsner Urquell

If you’re ordering a takeaway Jalfrezi, then we recommend treating yourself to a bottle of Pilsner Urquell alongside the tomato, onion and garlic flavours.

We hope you enjoy the list of beer recommendations for our tasty curry menu but make sure you always drink responsibly.

Easter-Bank-Holiday

Will we see over the Bank Holiday weekend?

Easter-Bank-HolidayAre you excited for the 4 day weekend coming up over Easter? It’s time to spend time with family and friends with a well needed break from work.

In between stuffing your face with the chocolate eggs the Easter bunny delivers, pop over to the Rupali for a delicious curry and a drink to truly treat yourself or order a takeaway to give yourself a break from cooking.

Have you given something up for lent? After Thursday 2nd you can celebrate your efforts and we think an Indian dish is the perfect reward – but don’t just take our word for it:

‘Never have a takeaway from anywhere else, always an amazing meal. Thank you 😊’

Top 10 curry facts!

Top 10 curry facts!

Top 10 curry facts!

You should know by now that we love our curry at the Rupali Restaurant and when someone says ‘I fancy an Indian tonight’, our hearts skip a beat in excitement.

But how well do we know our curry?

The nation’s favourite dish has been in the UK for more than 200 years now so we’re going to impress you with our tikka trivia!

  1. The word curry comes from a Tamil word – kari or karil – meaning spiced sauce.
  1. The world’s biggest curry weighed 13 tonnes and was a biryani which included 187lb of chillies and 6600lb of rice – we wouldn’t fancy pushing the shopping trolley for that! It was cooked in New Dehli in June 2008 and needed 60 chefs, 3 cranes and a 3ft high furnace to cook it.
  1. The Chicken Naga is one of the hottest dishes ever known to man as it is made with Naga pepper seeds. On the Scoville Scale, these seeds measure more than 100 times hotter than jalapeño peppers.
  1. Chicken tikka masala is the UK’s most popular curry dish served in restaurants with a ratio of 1 in 7.
  1. A poem was genuinely written about curry in 1846 called ‘A Poem to Curry’ by William Makeplace Thackeray and was a recipe for veal curry.
  1. We bet you didn’t know there is debate about how invented the chicken tikka masala. For years it was accredited to a couple in Birmingham in the 1970s that couldn’t handle spicy authentic Indian cuisine, however in 2009 a group of MPs claimed it was from Glasgow…
  1. Bradford is currently the Curry Capital of Britain – we want to change that to Coventry!
  1. The largest naan bread ever made was the equivalent of 167 normal sized naan breads! It took over 10 hours to finish and needed 12 chefs to cook it. Imagine how much curry you could mop up with that…
  1. There are actually more curry houses in London than in Mumbai and about 10,000 restaurants throughout the UK serving curry – the Brits sure do love a good spicy dish.
  1. The first curry house in England was opened in 1810 but the best Indian restaurant was opened in Coventry and called the Rupali

5 fun things to do in Coventry on Valentine’s Day

5 fun things to do in Coventry on Valentine’s Day

5 fun things to do in Coventry on Valentine’s DayIf you hadn’t heard about it all ready, Valentine’s Day is coming up fast and it’s the day dedicated to showing your partner how much you love them (even though we love curry 365 days a year!)

This year we think you should ditch the shop-bought card and plan some fun things to do in the Coventry, here’s some inspiration for you to make it a February 14th to remember:

5. Replace the card with a love note

Let’s be honest, we all resent spending £5 on a mass produced card every year. Let’s ditch the last-minute supermarket purchased card and replace it with a romantic love note.

Leave it by their bed so when they wake up it’ll be the first thing they see to brighten their day.

4. Prepare a breakfast picnic

Coventry in February may not scream picnic paradise but who said it had to be outside? Pack a basket with your favourite foods, cover your living room floor with a picnic cloth and scatter cushions, and you can even light candles to set the mood.

3. Treasure hunt

Write each other a series of notes to your favourite places in the city that you have a memory connected to. The treasure hunt will add a fun twist to an otherwise normal day.

Hint: list your favourite things off our menu and let them follow their stomach.

2. Costa del Coventry

Escape chilly Coventry without even leaving the city; create a ‘mini-moon’ with your loved one by dressing as if you were on holiday, eating the food you want and decorate your house in your favourite holiday theme – do we hear Caribbean palm trees?

If you’re inspired by a spa retreat, why not save the pennies by treating each other to an idealistic massage.

1. Wine and dine your better half

Going out for dinner is the traditional thing to do on Valentine’s Day but why don’t you add some spice to the occasion by visiting the Rupali!

We are hosting a special Valentine’s Day menu on February 14th; for just £29.95 per person you can enjoy a three course dinner in a romantic ambiance.

Love will be in the air as you indulge in pappdum chutney, any starter and any main course with rice or naan. We heard it’s the hottest date in Coventry…

To book a romantic table for two, call now on 024 7642 2500.
